Chapter 31

Lin Xi wandered alone inside the Helios spaceship.

It was quiet and shabby here.

Everywhere were pipelines that had become loose due to lack of maintenance, and instrument accessories scattered on the ground in a messy manner.

The lighting facilities were covered with dust and had long been unfunctional.

An alien golden-red light was projected from the window, leaving one spot after another on the mottled and rusty floor.

But this deathly silence did not make Lin Xi panic. On the contrary, he even felt calm because of it.

But this deathly silence did not make Lin Xi panic. On the contrary, he even felt calm because of it.

He walked up and down in the wreckage of the spacecraft like a wandering soul. Finally, his thoughts moved slightly, and he stopped at a metal door that was almost completely buried by old dust.

He looked at the sign next to the door, printed with the words ‘Helios Greenhouse’.

Lin Xi gently pushed the door, but the metal door that should have stopped functioning completely moved smoothly and silently to the side.

Most of the plants from Sunu in the greenhouse had completely withered, the black and grey dead branches were like the fingertips of a skeleton unwillingly sticking out.

And in the very centre of those withered branches and fallen leaves, a man stood there calmly, as if he had been waiting for Lin Xi there for many years.

I started dreaming again,

Lin Xi thought.

He knew it was a dream. The moment he saw that man, he had realised it.

Because he knew very well that the man in front of him would never appear in reality.

Similarly, only in a dream would that man stare at him with such eyes.

Ah, that’s great.

Lin Xi greedily traced the other’s face with his eyes.

His skin is as pale as marble, his irises were a mesmerizing blue.

That face was so handsome it seemed illusory, but when he smiled, that irrepressible tenderness instantly pulled him from illusions back into the world.

Just like in his memory, the man’s body was tall and strong. He was wore an old shirt and walked to Lin Xi, step by step.

Lin Xi stared at the man’s face unscrupulously. For such a long time, he had avoided thinking of the other.

But since it was already a dream… Lin Xi allowed himself to be a little presumptuous. He was too tired, and all his self-control had long collapsed.

Now, even if this is a nightmare, it doesn’t matter.

At least in such a dream, he was finally able to see each other again.

Lin Xi called out his name softly.

‘Xaiver…’

Xavier blinked at him,;he had already come to Lin Xi, then he leaned over and held Lin Xi’s hand.

Lin Xi trembled the moment he touched him.

He thought he would feel the hands of the dead… Just like in the countless nightmares, he would at first see Xaiver, but when he touched the other, he could only touch the cold and dry skin of the dead, like plastic paper, or elastic skin.

Then he would wake up crying.

But soon, the warmth from the man’s palm made Lin Xi relax.

This is a pair of hands that belonged to the living.

Even though he knew it was a dream, Lin Xi couldn’t help but feel his eyes heat up after realising this.

Xavier’s hands were slender and powerful. He stroked Lin Xi’s fingertips, and then pressed his palms little by little.

Lin Xi felt a small tingling sensation.

He lowered his eyes and found an inconspicuous wound in the palm of his hand. Lin Xi thought vaguely, it was left by the hammer clenched in panic from before —

He then thought, this dream seems to be getting more and more blurry.

Because before his gaze, Xavier had actually lowered his head and carefully observed the wound in his palm.

Then, the man’s expression became worried.

He held Lin Xi’s hand and pressed it to his face, as if he was comforting Lin Xi.

Lin Xi’s body trembled slightly.

He felt a sharp pain.

Ah, it’s a dream.

Xavier’s every move now made him aware of this.

Because Xavier would never make such an intimate and childish move to him.

As if perceiving Lin Xi’s stiffness, Xavier suddenly raised his eyes to him.

‘I want to… protect you… I… I love you…’

A hoarse and dry voice came out from Xavier’s lips, like a phonograph that had long been broken.

Lin Xi’s breathing suddenly stagnated.

‘What should… what should I do… what should I do to make you love me?’

Gradually, Xavier’s voice became smoother and smoother.

Behind him, something was gradually stretching out.

‘I love you, Lin Xi, what should I do to make you fall in love with me, what should I do to protect you?’

Soon, Xavier spoke like a normal person, without any jerkiness.

But Lin Xi couldn’t answer him, not at all.

Lin Xi stared at the man in front of him — this was not Xavier.

This was… an insect…

Lin Xi’s eyes widened wider and wider, and he watched the wings behind ‘Xavier’ turn into a strange, distorted colour. In the unusually dim environment, the spots on his wings flashed faintly with a scarlet fluorescence.

Immediately afterwards, those dark appendages directly stretched out from both sides of Xavier’s ribs, those sharp barbed tips directly piercing through the human muscles and skin, the fishy mucus gurgling out along the wounds.

And ‘Xavier’ still smiled softly at him.

His cheeks were cut open, his ferocious mouthparts protruded out from under the red gums.

‘No, it’s okay, don’t be afraid.’

And that monster still soothed Lin Xi, as though he hadn’t noticed the changes in his body at all.

‘You don’t have to worry about anything… I will protect you, I will love you… I will always be by your side,’ it said.

Lin Xi broke into shuddering trembles.

He suddenly discovered that in fact, ‘Xavier’ did not speak human language.

Rather…
